Having cleared your wardrobe (Spring Clean: Your Wardrobe) you may now be asking what do I fill it with? Before you start buying the latest trends why not first purchase pieces that can help you build a wardrobe that's practical, easy to use and enhance your looks.
Don't get caught out with nothing to wear because of following trends alone without first building a foundation for the trends to be complimented with. Essential items are timeless, no matter the year or latest fashion trends these items are here to stay and are definitely worth the investment.
The essential items should generally be of good quality as they form the basis of your wardrobe, it's okay to spend a little more than you would other less essential items. You will be wearing them more than the less essential items so you'll definitely be getting your moneys worth;
however you don't have to splash out or break the bank to obtain these styles.
Here is my list of 15 essential items for ladies, in no particular order for a more functioning wardrobe.
1. Little black dress
Feminine yet classy, can be dressed up or dressed down and worn virtually for any occasion; the great thing about the LBD with different accessories it looks like a different piece!
2. White tee.
Plain t-shirts, or tank tops with a pair of dark jeans, a blazer and pumps go well for effortless chic. This piece can be gotten in as many different shades as you wish to compliment other pieces trendy and classic being worn from your wardrobe.
3. Trench Coat
The classic trench coat in beige is a light weight jacket worth the investment, perfect for spring/fall or when it's not cold enough to wear a heavier coat; looks stylish come rain or shine!
4. Dark Jeans
Probably one of my favourite pieces of clothing. Goes with absolutely everything. Team it with a camisole, cardigan and flats for a day look or jazz it up with pumps a statement top and blazer for a night look.
5. Black trousers
Slim fit black trousers like the LBD can also be dressed up and down. Opt to also have a pair of fabulous wide leg pants for comfort on those 'bad body' days.
5. Pencil skirt
Like the LBD can take you from work to cocktails in style. Easily paired with the white blouse or cashmere cardigan or crewneck. This piece is very flattering to the figure if the style and fit is correct.
6. Quality cashmere cardigan or Crewneck
Although pricey it is worth every penny. Pair it with jeans or over a dress. Choosing a neutral shade such as grey means you'll get loads of wear out of it as it works well with all colours.
7. White button down blouse
Versatile, a good fitted blouse or shirt can be worn to work for the polished professional look or sleeves rolled up, with a vest skinny jeans and ankle boots for a more fashion savvy look. Pussy bow, button down the styles are endless.
8. Classic well cut coat
Buying one in a neutral shade such as black, navy or grey means you'll have a timeless piece that'll go with everything taking you from season to season.
9. Black blazer
Every ladies wardrobe needs the black blazer, can wear it to work buttoned up and for after work hours.
10. Good quality leather bag
The amount you spend is totally your choice, but a good quality leather hand bag will last for many years. Black means it'll go with all colours however if you wish to opt for a different colour, why not try orange, brown, or beige that also match with all colours.
11. Leather black Jacket
A short leather jacket is a versatile piece to have in your wardrobe. Always make sure it's a good fit through the shoulders and sleeves hit just before wrist bone can be paired with jeans for a casual look or a dress adding a slight edge to any outfit.
12. Ballerina pumps
Ballerina pumps are everyday walking shoes are comfortable and pretty much goes with everything in your wardrobe! Plain black goes along way, being adventurous with different shades and styles can make an outfit pop.
13. High heels
Sexy, high heel classic in black. Heels are more flattering than flats and can really elevate any outfit. Wear them selectively, for short bursts at a time especially if you haven't developed a stamina for them. 14. Pearl or diamond studs
When in doubt wear stud earrings in pearls or diamonds! Looks great with everything so you don't have to worry whether or not it goes with your outfit. You don't have to break the bank and splash out on real pearls or diamonds. Cubic zirconia studs are equally as dazzling.
15. Wrap dress
Wrap dresses can be worn in so many different settings and can be accessorized to create different looks. This piece is flattering to all body shapes! Be sure to get one or two for your wardrobe.
